The Ginnybee Story
Hi, my name is Virginia (Ginny) Berner, welcome to my hive!
I am a beekeeper and a candle maker.
it all started Wayback on one of my first dates with my husband Bill. He took me to meet his bees. I fell in love, with him and beekeeping. We settled down in San Jose California. Between raising two daughters and full-time jobs, the bees were set aside, but I continue to make candles for our dinner table, and his gifts for friends and family.
I picked up the hive tool again when the girls were nearly grown, and my beekeeping and candle making began in earnest. Ginnybee quickly outgrew the small Willow Glen garage and neighborhood yard. When most empty-nesters downsize, we expanded! Our new chapter begins in beautiful southern Oregon, with a historic Eagle Point barn for Ginnybee and plenty of room for happy bees! (and Bill has his own wood shop! )
The beeswax I use comes from local beekeepers and my own bees. My candles and ornaments are poured, one at a time, with 100% pure natural beeswax and 100% cotton wick. It is free from all artificial perfumes or colors. My candles burn beautifully and give off a lovely honey aroma.
I offer a hassle free "gift ready" package with candle & matches all wrapped up and ready to be gifted in beautiful organza bags.
What really motivated me was when I learned honeybees are dying at a staggering rate due to wide-spread use of pesticides, GMO plants and parasitic mites. Bees pollinate 80% of the world's plants including 90 different crops. One out of every three bites of food we consume is thanks to bees. If we care about the diversity of our food, and the preservation of our vital pollinators, then I urge you to buy from local beekeepers, refrain from using pesticides and plant a bee friendly garden. We'll all benefit.
I am a proud member of the Southern Oregon Beekeepers Association, Oregon State Beekeepers Association and remain a member of the Santa Clara Valley Beekeepers Association. Thank you for your interest and sharing my love for bees.
